A program to celebrate the 400s section of the Dewy Decimal System, Languages (and to help Tim honestly say he's using his B.A. in Romance Languages)! These stories and songs help people hear and savor the sound of different languages as they're transported to the cultures that speak them. Tim’s dramatic style of voice, movement, and facial expression brings stories to life, and his gift of encouraging participation makes for high-spirited and engaging programs. He’ll accompany songs with guitar, mountain dulcimer, and conga drum. A program bibliography will be available so that books containing the stories can be on display, and Tim will recommend them in the program to celebrate and encourage reading. Tim Van Egmond has been delighting and captivating audiences all over the country for over 30 years. He has been selected for the New England States Touring Program, the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Education Programs, and the New Hampshire State Library's Kids, Books, and the Arts Project.

Throughout history, people have used stones to tell stories, teach lessons, encourage speaking skills, and embrace imaginations. Create a set of 10 stones then join our group story telling session. Ruch, Dave One World, Many Stories Multicultural- Other,

Created for the 2011 NYS Library Summer Reading Program! With guitar, Indian tabla drum, European octave mandolin, traditional Native American cowhorn rattles and more, Dave Ruch leads the audience on a fun-filled musical journey across the world. Children become active participants in the program as they sing along (in English, Nigerian, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Iroquois!), answer questions, play musical games and act out songs. Some audience members will even be invited on stage to play the Iroquois rattles, and (for groups of 100 or less) all will have a chance to touch and play one of the instruments after the concert. Topics covered include the unique ways in which people around the world live (past and present), and perhaps most importantly, the many similarities that we all share. Dave also talks about his own eye-opening trip to India in 1992. 45 minutes long, adaptable for all ages Dozens of library references.

Edgecomb, Diane The Winter Solstice in Story and Song Multicultural- Other,

Celebrate the Winter Solstice with classic evergreen lore, haunting legends of light and entertaining tales surrounded by traditional and original music and song. Master storyteller Diane Edgecomb brings to life ancient tales of the longest nights including the Scandinavian Legend of the Mistletoe and the Apple Tree Man a humorous Wassail story from England. Accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Tom Megan this performance offers a fascinating look at the stories behind wintertime traditions. Songs evocative of the season and lovely instrumental melodies round out the event. Winner of the national ORACLE award for storytelling excellence and five Storytelling World awards, Diane's performances have toured nationally and internationally for over thirty years. Bierko, Scott Singable Stories From Around the World Multicultural- Other,

A Musical Journey Through the World of Books! “Singable Stories” is a forty-five minute, interactive concert of children's stories turned into songs by Beth & Scott Bierko. The material used in the program is based upon books of well-known children's folktales, myths and legends from diverse world cultures. Volunteers also locate countries on a 9'x12' world map backdrop. Countries covered include: Ireland, India, China, Switzerland, Russia and Native America. In addition to helping locate the countries, children are asked to participate in the stories. In most of the songs, students are invited to become actors on-stage and in others they sing or clap from their seats.

A Tour of World Flutes with Tereasa Payne Tereasa Payne, flutist, world-flutist, and woodwinds player, from NYC presents a program of 15 flutes from around the world. Audiences learn about and hear flutes from around the world while also learning a message about diversity and acceptance. Flutes included are from India, Romania, South America, Africa, Hawaii, Japan, China, Cambodia, and more! Tereasa is a regular performer with Disney’s “The Lion King” where she performs on 13 of these flutes from around the world.

Singer, Lauren CREATE A CIRCLE OF LIFE MANDALA Multicultural- Other,

In this creative and educational workshop, participants will design and create a personal mandala drawing or painting. Images of Native American as well as Tibetan sand mandalas will be on view and participants will learn about their role in promoting world peace. Fine colored markers or watercolor, pen and design tools will be used/ Meditative music will create a relaxing, focused experience. Class is taught by Lauren Singer, MPS, ATR award-winning artist, art teacher and creative arts therapist.

Non-stop action, physical comedy, audience participation, American Sign Language and imaginative props made from homemade objects. Multicultural Folktales are theatrically staged by professional actors before a gigantic oversized book. Kids are sent to search for books related to the show at the end of each library performance. Each 45 performance includes 2 folktales and a 30 minute rehearsal for up to 12 participants who perform in the show.
