Singer-Pianist-Entertainer and society orchestra leader Mitch Kahn celebrates the Great American Popular Songbook with “Sail Away”, a nautical voyage through the eyes of vintage songwriters Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Noel Coward, Frank Loesser, Hoagy Carmichael, Bart Howard, Jimmy Van Heusen, Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg, Sammy Cahn, Kurt Weill and the Gershwins (among others), as well as contemporary notables Ian Hunter, Peter Allen and Dennis Deyoung (of the rock band Styx). Song titles include well known standards “On a Slow Boat to China”, Beyond the Sea”, “Come Fly With Me” and “Skylark”, plus lesser known titles such as “I Go to Rio”, “Ships”, (recorded by Barry Manilow) and title song “Sail Away” (written by Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence). The program is very similar to the Uncle Brothers family concert, except the kids are more a part of the show.

Dr. Quinton Quark Presents… The Notion of Motion is a rollicking rollercoaster of physics demonstrations teaching about Newton’s Laws of Motion (Inertia, Force & Acceleration, Action & Reaction), how to use a hypothesis, and units. Using extensive audience participation the audience will learn why plates stay on a table when the table cloth is yanked away, why they need to buckle their seatbelts, and why not to walk around in a canoe. Finally, the audience will demonstrate their mastery of the new physics concepts by figuring out what will happen and how each of Newton’s Laws are demonstrated if Dr. Quark discharges a fire extinguisher while wearing roller blades. This show is most often performed for elementary schools; one audience of k – 2 (60 minutes) and another audience of 3 – 6 (70 – 75 minutes). This show is an excellent refresher for the science portions of all the standardized science tests. The Notion of Motion has appeared internationally in Singapore and Afghanistan. This program is written and presented by Ted Lawrence, certified veteran physics and chemistry teacher and former Ringling Bros. clown.
