| Rosenberg, Paul | Homespun Community Dancing with Peter, Paul & George |
Multicultural- Other, Music, Performing Arts- Dance |
Come kick up your heels to live fiddle music! Enjoy a tradition of community dancing and music handed down from generation to generation. Everyone gets involved – from ages 2 to 102 (especially those who have not danced before) -- in easy-to-learn American barn dance favorites: circles, squares, contras, as well as folk dances from around the world, like Ireland, Russia, Turkey, Israel, Tahiti, Mexico, France, Scandinavia, China and Africa.
The toe-tapping tunes consist of reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes and waltzes. Instruments may include fiddle, banjo, flute, pennywhistle, clarinet, guitar, piano, recorder, percussion, and more. While participation in the dancing is encouraged -- it's hard to sit still -- it's also fun to just watch and listen to the music.
This program helps children develop an awareness of our traditional way of life - when people lived without electricity and had to make their own entertainment - and discusses the origins, sounds and uses of traditional instruments. The Family Dance usually includes a short sit-down period to talk about the dancing, music, instruments, and cultures.

| Walker, Nancy | Nancy Walker trio |
Literature- Creative Writing, Music, Performing Arts- Other |
The Nancy Walker trio
Big Shoulders. The Zucchini Brothers. And that's just for starters. Nancy's voice has found a home with the trio, whether singing her own melodies, classics from the American songbook or selections from the deep catalog of the Old Town School of Folk Music. Have you lived until you've heard Nancy sing "Bury Me Beneath The Willow?" She's just an comfortable laying back and letting Larry and Sam stretch out on an original instrumental, with Larry's guitar snaking along Sam's expansive drum beat. Some bands get by on style, some get by on substance. Some, instead, catch the magic that flashes when the two poles meet.
The Nancy Walker trio is the real thing.
