The Native Americans used a hunter-gatherer model for centuries before agriculture was brought to their land. They knew how to find and prepare many foods from the wild, foods that still exist and are readily available today. Would you survive a natural disaster, war, or zombie apocalypse? This program will show you the plants that are in your own backyard that you can survive on, even in winter. Patrons will handle real native plants and learn when, where, and how to locate them. They will be able to taste wild foods during and after the program. Based on Euell Gibbons book “Stalking the Wild Asparagus. Artists covered will include James Taylor, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Indigo Girls, Sting, Neil Young, Wille Nelson, Gregg Allman, Simon and Garfunkel, and others. All songs will be performed solo acoustic, and brief discussion of relevant historical information can also be included in this program if necessary.

Find out how to navigate through today’s confusing food labels for dairy, eggs, meat, poultry, etc. Learn the meaning of FREE RANGE, PASTURE RAISED, GRASS FED, ORGANIC and much more. Learn what symbols and terms to look for, and how to decipher true verifications from false claims. Gary will show you the correlation between FACTORY FARMS and today’s superbug epidemic, and also give solid tips for avoiding it. Discover why and how agricultural laws are created for corporations.

Lara will share stories, play original songs, invite participants’ own individual reflection, and offer insight on the vision, values, people, places and events that have inspired her. Themes will span a broad range, from community connection to hardship and hope, resilience and transformation, legacy and passing a torch, and setting each other up to succeed. Step in, step up: we are the leaders we’ve been waiting for. (Note: This workshop can be tailored towards more interaction/participation, or towards more presentation/audience.)
