Oolong tea is the most diverse category of teas produced in the world. During this interactive seminar, we will explore several teas from the top oolong tea producing countries of China and Taiwan, along with a rare oolong from India. Learn about how oolong tea differs from the teas in other categories, specific health benefits associated with oolong tea, and the history and lore surrounding the teas being tasted. Three teas will be tasted and discussed including: Ti Kuan Yin; Formosa Fancy Oolong; and Nilgiri Frost Oolong.

This course is taught with a lecture and lab component. During lecture, students learn about the organization of the nervous system, synaptic transmission, neurotransmitters, and ionic basis for action potentials. These are basic foundations for the science of neurophysiology, which we will be practicing using hands on methods. The lab component involves recording action potentials in real time from an insect, and analysis of the recording to interpret results. Robotic control of an insect using neural circuits and a cell phone usually interest the most hard core bored students! The goal of the class is to interest students in neural circuits and neuroscience! China is the birthplace of tea and it was discovered almost 5,000 years ago. During this interactive seminar, we will explore several teas from China. Learn about the different categories of tea that are produced in China, specific health benefits associated with tea, and the history and lore surrounding the teas being tasted. Chinese black, green, and oolong teas will be tasted and discussed.

This program will be geared towards people who need the assistance of a chair to develop their yoga practice. Seated exercises as well as standing postures with the use of a yoga mat (students must bring their mats) and a chair will be performed by student and teacher, in addition to a short meditation to begin and end the class. A focus on wellness and timing the movement to the breath to elicit the "relaxation response" will help restore health, flexibility, balance, and mobility to the students' bodies. In addition, yoga has been proven to have many mental benefits as well including reductions in stress, anxiety, anger, sick days from work, time in the hospital, and substance abuse. Conversely, there is a corresponding increase in health and well-being, immune function, empathy, compassion, focus, attentiveness, and more.
