| golub, jane | Talking with Your Children About Sexuality |
Health & Fitness- Other, Life Skills- Parenting |
Today’s world has become a very sexually explicit one, yet one that so lacks age-appropriate or accurate information. The messages children are bombarded with are not always the messages parents are comfortable with. Parents want their children to have healthy and rewarding lives, yet many parents find it difficult to talk about sexual issues-especially with their own children. Parents are children's primary educators, and talking about sexuality offers them a unique and important opportunity to share not only accurate information but their own family values and beliefs as well. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, when parents talk with their children early, honestly and comfortably about a wide variety of sexuality topics, their children are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. These workshops are designed to help parents become more comfortable in talking about these sensitive issues with their children of all ages, and why such communication is so vital to keeping children safe and healthy.

| Paul, LoriAnn | Zinnia Yoga & Meditation Program for Children (and Adults) |
Health & Fitness- Sports, Health & Fitness- Other, Life Skills- Other |
Yoga is a superb form of physical exercise balancing strength, flexibility, endurance and relaxation/stress management skills. Many postures are designed to stretch, tone and strengthen particular parts of the body, and students are encouraged to respect their own particular strengths and weaknesses while exercising.
I have been told that my special way of engaging the children during class makes Yoga so much fun, that they don’t even realize they are exercising! Furthermore, many children seem to enjoy the guided visualization/meditation at the end of class the most. I am currently using several hundred meditations designed specifically for the minds and hearts of children.
The ancient healing arts of yoga and meditation can undoubtedly help countless individuals, who struggle with different anxiety disorders, learning disabilities and behavioral problems. Furthermore, many of our young people (as well as adults) are at risk of developing diabetes and obesity. In general, people tend to overeat when stress levels are high and energy levels are low; yoga helps to bring these into balance for optimal health and well-being. This program may be offered to students once or on an on-going basis.
