The Politics of Persuasion - Folk Music and the 1960's: During our recent times of political turmoil and indecision, one of the best ways to put life into perspective is to journey back into the 1960's and reevaluate the movement and the songs of the artists who broached the topics of the time. Join us as we watch clips and see such artists as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Tom Rush, Donovan, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and many many more. Come and be inspired by the music and investigate the invigorating feeling of taking control of one's own destiny. Along with the performances we'll also discuss the history of folk music and its importance in helping shape the America we live in today.

Vincent Price was a box office draw with his horror films of the 1950's, 60's and 70's. But many never realized that Price was being groomed for more romantic leading parts in such films as The Song of Bernadette and Laura. This program focuses on the career of Vincent Price, from his early years in Hollywood to his later years working with the notorious American International Pictures and finally his rediscovery at the hands of filmmaker Tim Burton. A combination of DVD and film presentation, we also get a look at some rare pressbooks and posters used to advertise Price's pictures, this program is the ultimate testament to one of Hollywood's greatest talents.

Fiske, David Broadway Goes to War: "Soldier Shows" of World War I History,

During the first World War, presentations called "soldier shows" allowed theatrical producers to not only entertain the public, but provide a show of patriotism. Some of these shows were put together by individuals who served in the military (such as Sergeant Irving Berlin), though others had no military background. The shows were light entertainment, featuring skits and musical numbers, and utilized many performers who were actually in the service. Proceeds from soldier shows went to projects intended to improve the lives of those serving in the armed forces of the United States.

Through his beautiful photographs, Photographer-Anthropologist Barry Kass will take the audience on a journey to northern Italy, including Milan, the Lake District, old Medieval towns such as Vicenza, Verona and Padua, Venice, Florence and the wonderful Tuscan countryside. This region of northern Italy is renowned for its scenic beauty and unforgettable art, architecture, and history. A highpoint of the talk will be a visit to Bolzano in the incredible Dolomite Alps, where the famous discovery of Otzi, the frozen iceman of the Alps, can be seen in the city museum.

He was also nominated for an Oscar in the Army Air Force recruiting film Winning Your Wings. Stewart served as Commander of the 445th Bomb Group completing 20 bombing missions and retiring as a Brigadier General. Join us as we explore the military careers of Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable and view Gregory Peck lead the 918th Bomb Group deep into Germany in the Oscar-winning film 12 o’clock High. Presenter: Rick Feingold teaches “The Air Force in World War II” at Bergen Community College.

Following the film, Ken Kimmelman, Emmy Award winning filmmaker (Imageryfilm.com), gives an exciting talk on the making of the film and its meaning.

Author and photographer Alexandra Siy offers a STEAM inspired workshop for students ages 10 and up. InstaSTEM = interactive video conferencing + art + STEM! Students learn how to use their cell phone cameras to create original "science as art" photographs and write a compelling, scientifically accurate caption that they can post on their social media sites. The introductory program will get students started on their "science as art" adventure, but for libraries interested in offering a more in-depth workshop, please consider a four-week workshop which is offered online in the author's Fieldtrip ZOOM classroom.

STEAM educator Kathy Ceceri, author of the book 'Paper Inventions' from the publishers of MAKE magazine, will show kids how to create simple machines, structures and even electronic circuits using paper as a construction material! Choose from a variety of projects for this hands-on workshop, including Light-Up Paper Art and a paper geodesic dome big enough to crawl in, as well as traditional papermaking. Kathy is an expert on low-tech/no-tech ways to teach kids about electronics, robotics, and engineering. Her award-winning titles include 'Making Simple Robots' from Maker Media and 'Robotics: Discover the Science and Technology of the Future' and 'Video Games: Design and Code Your Own Adventure' from Nomad Press.
