I offer this fun-filled and exciting workshop engaging people of all ages in comprehending and appreciating the wonders of the universe. Astrophysicist Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, has always been passionate about astronomy, and wants to share the excitement with you! Over the next 1 ½ - 2 hours, you’ll learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Following the presentation, a powerful telescope will be set up in the courtyard or parking lot for viewing the rings of Saturn and other beautiful objects in the night sky, weather permitting.

'Exploring Nature Through The Arts' offers a variety of art workshops that teach art and observational techniques which develop insight into the natural principles of creative thinking. Each workshop is an adventure of exploration of the natural world in which each participant creates a unique, handcrafted art project. All lessons offer a fresh perspective about art as it relates to nature and the environment and are applicable for all age levels. Art projects may include nature journals, track casting, drawing or storytelling in addition to an introduction to how to look at nature. Rockin’ in the Ocean” is a rollicking collection of Rock, Swing and Doo-Wop songs about Sea Mammals and other ocean inhabitants from a highly interactive show written for Elementary School children and their parents and teachers at the request and under the guidance of the New York Aquarium. Gigi, a multi-award winning singer, was asked by the Aquarium to write and produce a show celebrating Sea Mammals in a fun and stylized form reminiscent of blasts from the past, and “Rockin’ in the Ocean” is the result Gigi® and the Lend Me a Hand Band® is a multi-generational musical troupe dedicated to bringing joy to young audiences through musical merriment, theatre and literature. Whether it’s purely for entertainment or used as a means to educate children, music is a powerful force that gets kids of all ages involved and creates a memorable experience for them. Once upon a time there was a talkative little turtle who had an ambitious dream - to fly! He was so captivated by the idea of seeing the world from way up in the air, that he spoke about it constantly to all the other animals in the forest, wondering how he could accomplish his goal. Based on a Native American legend, this is a play about reaching beyond the "every day" and striving to do more, even when it seems to be impossible. Puppeteer Robert Rogers has applied all the imagination and skill that he has acquired over a 31 year career.

The Ivy Vine Players Puppet Theater is a one-woman show with a cast of over 75 handmade puppets. Each one has been individually crafted from recycled materials, so that Uncle Walter's bathrobe appears suitably well-worn, and Nana's muddy garden boots have a familiar feel. The show is a blend of song and story,; you'll leave humming the tunes, and remembering tales of being kind to the earth and each other. Puppet-making workshops are available to follow the show ($175). We provide most materials and teach puppetry skills. NEW! Autobiographical shadow puppet workshop for kids 8 years and up.

A slide show and lecture offering an introdution to plant identification by using texts and field guides and by pointing out the characteristics to look for without getting into deep technical discussion and analysis> Nature study is often presented as too overpowering for many and this can be intimidating. this program is a user friendly approach to this field of study which should make it a fun experience rather than an overpowering one.

Build your own bluebird nest box! Kids and adults love to make their own bluebird box. Other birds that use this box include tree swallows, chickadees, titmice, and wrens. It is a hands-on learning experience. Using pre-cut lumber with ALL materials and tools provided, everyone makes and takes home a bluebird nest box. (Or,alternatively, a chickadee box with a smaller entrance hole for those who do not have good bluebird habitat.) The nest box building program includes a PowerPoint presentation on bluebirds and other birds with John Rogers. This dynamic and colorful PowerPoint presentation will educate the audience on bluebirds, other birds, and how to properly place their box, etc. The slide program will add about 35-45 minutes, making the total time up to 90 minutes. Customized as needed. (Please refer to the other listing for a description of the full length, stand alone PowerPoint presentation.) Children, adults, and families love this hands-on activity, and it provides an opportunity to help bluebirds, other birds, and the environment, too. Materials include pre-cut wood, nails, and inside plastic strip. Tools include hammers and safety glasses. Mr. Rogers cuts and drills the wood himself in his garage.
