A lecture and slide presentation of the mines and mining industry of the region and the reasons for its demise. Primarily focusses on iron mines but also discusses lesser known mines such as zinc, copper, mica, and nickel.

A Celebration of Nature and all the simple things we can do to help. Tales for the Earth is a beloved performance that is both educational and entertaining. It explores topics such as Water Conservation, Recycling and Wildlife Protection. Like all of Diane's programs, the performance is tailored to suit each specific audience. Depending on the age range stories may include: What Now, Cloacina?, Diane's hilarious water conservation story about a water sprite who travels through the sewage system in search of her pond or Boy Who Loved the Swamp, based on the true story of a 5th Grade student who saves his favorite nature spot from development. In addition contemporary tales explore ways to foster a whole Earth ethic. What shines through the entire presentation is a love and respect for our place in nature; with many ideas communicated about how we can create a difference. SCHOOL PROGRAM INFORMATION The shows are based upon current national Science Education Standards as adopted by the National Science Teacher's Association. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS - HIGH SCHOOLS MIDDLE/JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS ____________________ The average presentation lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. Q & A time is set aside if requested by the school. Programs of different time spans are available. Many schools opt to have 2 programs allowing for difference in age and grade levels. The content of the shows vary when possible taking into consideration developmental levels of the grade school audiences and also is tied into the current curriculum where possible. The program for the younger children emphasizes that science is fun and worth pursuing with a limited amount of scientific information appropriate for that age group. The program for the older students has the same emphasis but includes a greater amount of age/developmentally appropriate scientific information

Live animals & specimens. Learn about burrowing animals from different orders & families. Get the opportunity to touch the pelts of a badger, woodchuck and mole! Learn about the diet of a badger and why they are so fierce. How much wood can a woodchuck chuck? Well, at least find out how much dirt this little guy can push. And what about the life of a mole? Live animals include the prickly African Hedgehog, soft & plush South American Chinchilla and the social digger Chilian Degu.
