2009's MOST POPULAR PROGRAM! Participants are asked to imagine themselves as a super hero. By answering a series of questions, they develop a super hero persona. The answers are then used to draw themselves as the super hero they are! Cartooning, drawing, and creative writing and thinking are developed and refined during the program. Wild, zany answers are encouraged! All supplies are included.

Here's a unique and interesting program that will please your patrons as well as wet the apatite of Long Islanders curious to see how their beloved home is represented in the Hollywood of old. Utilizing clips from vintage Hollywood films I will give a detailed account of the West coasts view of the East coast. A Gold Coast mansion could either be the scene of a storm swept murder mystery or provide the perfect setting for a Marx Brothers comedy, but the exclusivity, beauty and wonder of Long Island will forever be captured in the heyday of tinsel town and the representations vary in interesting ways. Join us for this historical journey of cinema and seascape.

Mr. Vit Hořejš, Internationally known Czechoslovak puppeteer, storyteller and author, performs a one-man show of Czech fairy tales (in English) replete with mountain wizards, clever village maidens and spirits. His marionettes speak in a dozen voices, dance, play violin, swim and fly. The program will be composed of favorite Czech fairy tales such as The Snow Maiden Sněhurka, (in which a childless couple find a little girl in a winter blizzard), The Stingy Tailor (a proud and stingy tailor is taught a lesson by the water spirit, Vodni'k) and The Twelve Months (an orphaned girl is sent to fetch strawberries from the forest in the middle of a blizzard and meets twelve kind men—twelve months).

Selfies are all the rage these days, so why not draw upon your inventive self to a create a meaningful and artistic one without the camera, just like artists still do? Using a mirror and a mix of drawing materials you will be guided in ways to express the essence of who you are with color, drawing techniques and some fun effects. No experience necessary. Inspiring and unusual examples of portraits and self-portraits will be shown.

This program can be held as a one-day workshop or mulitple-session residency. I teache the beginning skills needed to create and develop a graphic novel or short story. Drawing skills, story telling skills, creative writing and visual story boarding are taught. Age 12 and up mandatory for this program. A great way to get teens and especially teen boys to visit your library!
