Program Information

Program name: Old Fashioned Soap Making
Program category: Life Skills- Other
Nature- Environment
Visual Arts- Crafts
Program length: 1 hour
Audience level: All ages
Audience size: Any
Program description: Learn to make soap the old fashioned way! This program allows participants to craft their own soap with a variety of molds and natural additions such as hibiscus flowers, jojoba, lavender, vanilla beans, the sky is the limit! This program is tailored to your library audience. For younger children can use a melt and pour soap, and older teens can watch a demonstration of the chemical reaction between lye and lipids. This fits nicely with Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House' books, and some libraries use it as the finale to a story time featuring one to give patrons a real life experience. Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions to be added to my live booking link. This program supports building a sustainable future, and is suitable for the 2019 summer reading program.
Space/special requirements: Old fashioned soap will require time to set for one week after the program ends, so plan accordingly. Melt and pour soap is ready immediately.
Travel restrictions: N/A
Program fee: $101- $200
Is this fee negotiable? Yes
Mileage included? No
If no, cost per mile: $0.50
Notes about the fee: The base fee of $200.00 allows for 40 patrons to make their own bar of soap. If you expect more, you may add them at $5 per person. It is helpful to have an estimate prior to the program so I bring enough supplies.
Other notes: Mileage is charged based on distance from Ithaca, NY. Libraries at greater distances are encouraged to block book to split travel between several libraries, and program discounts are offered based on number of libraries participating.
