Program description: Watching anime is no longer exclusive to college dorm rooms or for home use. Anime is moving into the public library for young adults in the form of programs presented to these young patrons who wish to interact with fellow fans. Currently, the Upper Hudson Library System has encouraged the development of teen anime clubs in many of its 29 branch public libraries. Pioneering public libraries have embraced the idea of non-traditional library events such as mini-conventions. Among these in 2015, the main branch of the Schenectady Public Library held such an event at no cost to patrons. Included were various panels on comic books, cosplay and of course anime. Many public facilities are following this Japanese popular culture trend by helping teens form their own fan clubs at schools, public libraries, churches and colleges. This program serves as an introduction to anyone who wants to start such an anime club. Major topics presented includes: forming a club hierarchy, club constitution, use of library technology, public presentations rights, copyrights issues, content issues, planning for club field trips, and of course parental supervision and liability.
