Program description: The Italians reinvented the horror film between 1960 and 1980. Generally, the genre was frowned upon by the fascist movement of the 1930's, but once the war ended and Italy had a chance to get back on their feet, they ended up making up for lost time by producing some of the most frightening films ever to grace a movie theater screen. From the trend setting work of directors like Mario Bava (Black Sunday) to the misanthropic nightmares of Lucio Fulci (Zombie), Italian horror films continue to place their mark on the current crop of American made nightmare films. Join me for the ultimate history lesson on European trash cinema. Comes complete with a vintage memorabilia presentation plus a 16mm showing of a digest version of Horror Castle (1963). This program would be very popular with your younger teenage and college years patrons.
