Performers and Programs

Program Information

Program name: Dig - In Gardening
Program category: Life Skills- Food
Nature- Gardening
Science
Program length: 1 hour
Audience level: All ages
Audience size: Any
Program description: During the program, the presenter will help patrons plant their own square foot garden, using heirloom seeds. A 4x4 square area can be tilled on library grounds with permission prior to the program for a garden site, or an alternative will be to use a box demo garden to inspire patrons of all ages to be aware of where their food comes from and to eat local. I will also talk about heirloom seeds and seed saving, do it yourself vertical hydroponics, and environmental conservation. Some libraries are hosting a community seed swap after the program to increase plant diversity and availability of great food for all. I think this is an AWESOME idea! This program is suitable for the 2017 summer reading program.
Space/special requirements: If the library is able and willing, we can plant a real garden outdoors. Advance notice required, I am happy to till up a 4x4 foot space anywhere (it takes 10 minutes with the mantis tiller). Otherwise a 4x4 foot demo garden will be provided.
Travel restrictions: N/A
Program fee: $101- $200
Is this fee negotiable? Yes
Mileage included? No
If no, cost per mile: $0.50
Notes about the fee: Program Fee is $150.00 + Mileage. Mileage is charged by distance from Binghamton, NY.
