Program description: The show, which uses magic and humor to promote reading, highlights the New York state summer reading program theme, “Make a Splash – Read!” As jolly, seafaring Captain HurriCain, Ron Cain takes children on an imaginary trip to the bottom of the ocean. Together, they explore a Magical Underwater Library. Young readers have fun with water-themed illusions that highlight different types of books they can borrow. During the adventure, they help Ron perform tricks involving pirates, mermaids, and a sea monster or two. Since 1998, Ron has created magic shows based on the annual summer reading program theme. Each program encourages children to visit their library and appreciate the magic of books. A Syracuse University graduate and former teacher, Ron has more than 16 years of experience performing at schools, libraries, companies and festivals throughout New York. He also has appeared on television’s Pappyland and Saturday Showboat. His magic shows with educational messages include Tune In To Magical Idol, Uncle Sam's Old Time Magic Show, Magic of America, Wandering Wizard Show, Magical Museum Show, Tex the Cowboy Magician's Wild West Show, and the Case of the Missing Bunny.
Space/special requirements: Ron brings his own sound system and performance table. He can perform anywhere, as long as there is room for the audience to sit in front of him.
