Program description: Highlights of major periods of music history, noteworthy composers and their contributions, instrumentation, stylistic technique of the composer (all preceded by an introduction to basic music theory to facilitate understanding the terms) as well as brief viewing and commentary on major art of period and how each influenced the other. Major periods: Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern (1890-)to 20th Century as time permits. Handouts of timelines are provided, along with instructor's notes. A projector is needed for viewing. Instructor brings lap top. The content is targeted to high school age and adults.
