| Program description: | Sonali Skandan and her Jiva Dance Company will present famous legends from India using the form of Bharatanatyam, the classical dance from South India. Combining rhythmic footwork with beautiful hand and facial gestures, Jiva Dance will present the music and stories that are timeless to Indian culture, including the birth of Ganesha, the battle between Krishna and the serpent demon Kalinga, and the grandeur of Lord Rama. Universal themes such as love, longing and devotion are highlighted in these epic stories. |

She has a Masters in Education and is a Teaching Artist for many organizations in the NYC area. She runs her own institute, Jiva Performing Arts in NYC where she teaches and performs regularly. |
