Program description: Take a trip back in time to the 1400’s and spend a day in the simple Italian town of Vinci, where a remarkable young boy named Leonardo once lived. Watch as he takes his first few steps toward greatness, by letting his imagination fly and his curiosity take hold of everything around him. An apprentice in the studio of Master Verrocchio, Leonardo is exposed to the wonders of art and science. He paints, he studies, he builds – in short, he lets his dreams come true. The man who would come to be known as the painter of the Mona Lisa had to start somewhere, and this is an imaginary tale of how it happened. The Robert Rogers Puppet Company was founded in 1980, and has since performed thousands of times across the country and around the world. While it is available all year, providing meaningful, artistic productions for summer reading programs is an especially enjoyable pursuit for the troupe.
Space/special requirements: This production is performed within a special touring puppet theater, complete with its own sound and lighting equipment. Its size can be adjusted to fit many different kind of facilities.
