Program description: An interactive program of songs, small and large movement, and rhythm instrument play for preschoolers and their parents. Story themes may be incorporated with the songs, e.g. songs about the seashore, songs about the seasons, songs about the river, songs about a holiday or national celebration. Parents interact with their children and the children learn that music and reading is fun, especially when sharing quality time with their parent or caregiver. Rhythm instruments (over 12 different types) are hand-held percussion instruments that are sanitized prior to use and are very sturdy and safe. (A craft or art project may be added on, which will extend the program length to 1 hour and 15 minutes.)
Space/special requirements: Space should be large enough to accommodate and allow for movement (walking, skipping, circle dance) for all participants. If using art supplies, a table or tables for work space that is easily cleaned. For seated participation, children may sit on floor with parents. Parents should not be sidelining or wallflowers as this will cause children to wander away from the program back to their parents.
