Performing Arts- Theater
Program length: 30-40 minutes

Program description: Artistic director Geoffrey Navias follows the events that mark the important moments in ones’ life, no matter where or when you live. These events are celebrated in many cultures through traditions and rituals using masks, movement and stories. Throughout this lively performance, Mr Navias demonstrates how the mask evokes body movement, emotion and character
Space/special requirements: The performance requires a minimum area 8’ deep x 12’ wide. A raised stage is recommended for large audiences (over 100) but may be played in a more intimate setting for smaller groups. If there is no stage a sturdy table at least 2 ½ ‘ square is required.
Travel restrictions:
Program fee: $351- $500
Is this fee negotiable? No
Mileage included? Yes
Notes about the fee: Travel fees apply to venues beyond 60 miles from Syracuse, NY. Discounts applied for back-to-back performances in same venue
Other notes: This one man performance opens with the smallest mask, and continues from there. The mask dictates the body language of the performer. The mask has been used from the very beginning of human culture to mark important moments in the life of individuals and the community. The performer relates the stories of a birth mask from Mexico, Rites of Passage from Africa, the cycle of life mask from Indonesia, a Death mask from the Himalayan Mountains. In between he performs vignettes with original masks that characterize various emotions, attitudes, and community events. He ends with the telling of an old story from the Andaman Islands entitled Sky Too Low.
